Greece’s Civil Protection Authority upgraded the so-called Covid-map on Friday evening and its head Nikos Hardalias said that many areas in the country continue to show a high epidemiological load with the effect that they remain in “deep red”, i.e. very high risk level.
An increase in the epidemiological burden is observed in 10 Regional Units, while in 3 the epidemiological burden remains stable and in 61 Regional Units has decreased, Hardalias said at the live briefing on Friday.
Updated Covid-Map on May 7, 2021
New in Deep Red
The Municipality of Visaltia in the Regional Unit of Serres,in the Municipality of Messolonghi in the Regional Unit of Aitoloakarnania and the Kastania Settlement (Vyssa/Orestiada in the Regional Unit of Evros) of Saturday morning, May 8, 2021.
Kastanies Settlement in tougher lockdown as on Kalymnos
It is worth noting that particularly in Messolonghi, there has been an aggressive, exponential increase in active cases in recent days, which have increased to 233 when on April 27 it was 49, ie the cases have almost increased five-fold in 10 days.
The situation in Messolonghi as well as in the surrounding areas such as Agrinio and Aetoliko, seems extremely worrying, with a large spread of the virus within the community.
We call on both the residents of the wider area of Messolonghi and the island of Kalymnos [ in tougher lockdown since beginning of the week] to remain vigilant and to insist on the universal and strict observance of the measures, without excuses, without discounts. I repeat, the situation especially in these 2 areas is extremely dangerous, Hardalias underlined.
