An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook the island of Nisyros at 1.14 am on Tuesday. The tremor occurred 24 km south-southwest of Nisyros, the Dodecanese, the Geodynamics Institute of National Observatory of Athens said.
The Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Institute (EMSC) estimated that the quake had a magnitude of 5.9 and occurred at a small focal depth of about 2 km.
No injuries or material damage were reported.
The earthquake was felt in the neighboring and broader area.
