Greek politicians request lifting status of protected witnesses on Novartis scandal

Six Greek politicians have submitted a request to judicial authorities to remove the whistleblowers’ identity protection who have implicated them into the Novartis scandal.

The request was submitted to the judicial council of the Special Court on Thursday.

The whistleblowers, “code-named ‘Kelesi’ and ‘Maximos Sarafis‘ had alleged that the high-profile politicians took bribes from Swiss drugmaker Novartis,” notes daily kathimerini.

The request is signed by former prime minister Antonis Samaras, former deputy prime minister Evangelos Venizelos, Bank of Greece Governor Yannis Stournaras, the former EU commissioner Dimitris Avramopoulos, Development Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Movement for Change MP Andreas Loverdos.

PS Revealing identity of protected witnesses is a huge challenge for the judicial and criminal system, not only in Greece but worldwide. Just curious how the Supreme Court will decide.
