Greece’s health authorities announced on Thursday 3,273 coronavirus cases and 20 Covid-related deaths in the last 24hours. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals Intensive Care Units increased further to 286.

At the weekly live briefing on coronavirus developments on Thursday, professor of Pathology of the Medical School of the University of Patras and member of the Health Ministry Committee Charalambos Gogos stressed that the Delta variant is the prevailing one in the country.
He noted that the Delta variant has exceeded 80% in the tests. He added that the available vaccines are very effective against the Delta strain.
He spoke about the disease of young people at this stage, but stressed that there is a shift to older generations.
He also underlined that the coverage in the ICU bdes is 60% throughout the country and 41% in normal Covid beds.
In Crete, ICU coverage reaches 96.5%, while in Athens the coverage is 76% and in Thessaloniki 57%.
“We are in the fourth wave of the global pandemic and we are far from the control of it,” Gogos stressed.
He pointed out at the need for the use of protection measures in order to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
He stressed that the epidemiological burden in the country shows a continuous increase with the positivity index ranging between 3% and 4%.

Since the pandemic began, Greece has confirmed 550,459 infections (daily change: +0.6%). In the confirmed cases of the last 7 days, 128 infections are related to travel abroad and 1409 to other confirmed cases.

51.2% of the infected are men.
There are 20 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours, the total of pandemic victims to 13,298. Of these, 95.1% had an underlying condition and/or were 70 years old.
Light blue: intubations pink: deaths
A total of 286 Covid-patients – from 282 a day earlier – are on ventilators in hospitals. Their median age is 65 years. 61.2% are men. 83.9% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more.
According to EODY, intubated Covid-patients based on age group are:

- 40-64: 130
- 65+ : 144
2,896 patients have been discharged from ICUs since the pandemic began.
276 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours (daily change: -4.83%). The average admission of patients with Covid-19 to hospitals over the last 7 days was 251.

The median age of new infections is 40 years (range: 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of the deceased is 78 (range: 0.2 to 106 years).
