Greek seismologist Gerasimos Papadopoulos characterized the seismic activity in the area of Nisyros and Tilos in the south-eastern Aegean Sea in the recent months as “quite unusual.” On a post, he noted that 1,500 earthquakes have occurred between April and September 6, 2021.
On a post on Facebook that was also reported by state broadcaster ERT, Papadopoulos said that the persistent seismic activity is a cause of concern and deserves to be re-evaluated.
He stressed that the risk of another strong earthquake has not disappeared.
