Greece’s PM rules out new lockdown, says “we’ll wear masks for a long time”

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis ruled out a general lockdown in upcoming winter due to the pandemic and said that the use of face masks will be for a long time.

Speaking at the press conference at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on Sunday, the PM said said that the measures for the protection of public health will continue to apply and that we will continue to use masks for a long time.

“Τhe only weapon is the vaccination, the society and the economy are not going to be shut down again,” Mitsotakis stressed.

He added that the society should not be divided on a scientific issue and said that “the vaccines are safe.”

The PM said further that “9 out of 10 intubated Covid-patients are unvaccinated, and that these scientific data can not be set in doubt.”

“the solution is in our hands: we get vaccinated and we are set free,” he added.

On the vaccination strategy, he said that it is not the government’s intention to extend the mandatory vaccination in other sectors. “At the moment it is not in my intentions, however I cannot rule it out,” he added.

Note that restrictions for unvaccinated citizens in Greece go into effect on Monday, September 13, 2021.

  1. The “Daily Mail” is reporting 15.000 protesters against the vaccination policy of Mitsotakis in Thessaloniki yesterday.
    What’s up in Greece?

    • 15,000? somebody got the numbers wrong

    • That is a correct terrm “protesters against the vaccination policy”. There are many people against how the vaccine passports are now being used in a way the government said they never would.
It was a positive surprise to read in world news the UK Prime Minister’s announcement that the use of their vaccine passports is being brought to an end.
