Daily coronavirus infections in Greece hit a new record on Monday with 7,335 cases confirmed in the last 24 hours. Greece’s health authorities announced also 65 new Covid-related deaths. The number of intubated Covid-patients in hospitals has increased further to 477.
The new coronavirus record concerns authorities as usually the number of PCR and Rapid tests are several thousands fewer on Sunday/Monday and confirmed infections normally skyrocket on a Tuesday.
The constant increase of coronavirus infections since October 30 have, however, created a new drive to vaccinations against Covid-19.
Secretary General of Primary Health Care Marios Themistoklous said at the Live Briefing on Monday evening that an 185% increase in appointments for the vaccination first dose were booked in the last 7 days and an 200-percent increase for the booster shot.
However, even though some Greeks rush to get a jab there are other who categorically refuse to do so. According to some polls, there are estimated some 800,000 people living in the country who say that they will never have a jab against coronavirus.
The situation in the hospitals of Central and North Greece is dramatic, with ICUs to have reached capacity and Covid-patients intubated in ordinary wards.
As if this was not enough, doctors have also to struggle with anti-vaxxers who oppose intubation. In Volos a 55-year-old Covid-patient died with doctors being unable to offer aid. The man had previously signed a document that he did not want intubation.
In Peloponnese, another Covid-patient was refusing intubation and doctors did indeed intubate the woman when she fainted.

》In Peloponnese, another Covid-patient was refusing intubation and doctors did indeed intubate the woman when she fainted.
Is that how triage is done? Intubating people against their will? No wonder there is not enough respirators!
I think it’s a very difficult situation for doctors. If they don’t treat the patient and she dies, her family may well make a complaint. If a patient is unconscious you can’t ask for consent.
I can understand that some people are afraid to get vaccinated, but why would they refuse intubation? There is now a medicine we will be using to treat Covid. Will they refuse to take that as well?
It seems resisting all things related to Covid has become a new ideology for some, almost cultish in character. They are even willing to die for their beliefs. This period of time and this crisis is proving to be an interesting case study of human behavior and mass hysteria.
And still, somehow, churches are immune to covid 19….a place where many congregate together. Interesting.
And sitting at a bar, eating at a restaurant, where else does C19 not strike or do you have a problem with ppl of faith?
Molly, you are so right! When doctors graduate they swear an oath to save lifes! That is their ultimate goal in practicing medicin. So, when people dont understand that they are risking their own lifes, what can the doctors do? Whatever they do somebody will file a complaint, either the relatives or if they succeed the patient him/herself! Tricky, to say the least…..
So countries around the world with the highest vaccination rates have the highest ‘infection’rates why does this not make people ask questions?? ie is this a chicken or egg situation? The jabs don’t stop transmission or infection – a fact stated by uk government. Wake up !
No vaccin stops transmission or infection to 100%! But they give somewhere inbetween 70-90% protection and they prevent you from getting seriously ill and maybe die. Thats enough for me anyway! How many would have died without the vaccin???? And how many would suffer since the health care system did not have room for them??
Almost seems like the lock downs, where the whole world wasn’t allowed outside didn’t work.
