A donuts-baker has been appointed to the position of Deputy general director of the public hospital on the island of Ikaria. Anezinia Stamouli proudly announced her appointment on her social media account last week and publicly thanked local MP of ruling New Democracy, Christodoulos Stefanadis for her appointment, that has triggered strong reactions.
Stamouli is the owner of a donuts shop Greek-style “Loukoumades” on the neighboring island of Samos, from where also Stafanadis comes from.
The confectioner’s qualification for this sensitive post amid a harrowing pandemic are studies of Cultural Policy & Development at the Open University of Cyprus as well as a postgraduate diploma for the “Administration of Cultural Units” obtained at the Greek Open University.
She was sworn in on November 29.
There was no public opening for the job position.
Greeks slammed the appointment on social media and sharp criticism came even by government-affiliated media.
Ironically congratulating Health Minister Thanos Plevris for choosing a confectioner for this position, Skai TV journalist Aris Portosalte called on him and the government to immediately stop the practice of appointing party members to hospitals stressing that the current pandemic times demand people who know how to run such facilities.
Portosalte recalled also that MP Stefanadis, a cardiologist, was the host of a lunch with the Prime Minister and a crowd of people amid the lockdown and strict restrictions (for the plebes) last February.
Some media posted also pictures of the donuts-baker with the Prime Minister.
Sweet party loyalty pays off…
Obviously well versed in the nutritional needs of the islanders ,I dare say colestarol is on its way down.
No bread let them eat donuts ,
