“Greece is a country with amazing quality of life,” says PM; See what Greeks respond to him…

“Greece is a country with an amazing quality of life. If it can offer good work and good earnings, for someone who is Greek, the return is almost one way street. That is why we have given a series of tax incentives for the returns of young people from abroad,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday during his visit to the offices of Viva Wallet in Athens that has been acquired by banking giant JP Morgan & Chase.

The Prime Minister posted this wonderful statement also on Twitter…

… with the result that hundreds of Greek used the opportunity to tell the Prime Minister how exactly the situation is in the country.

Indicative some tweets by Greeks frustrating by the low wages especially for the youth and the conditions in the labor market, the health, the education and the exorbitant price hikes and the cost of living that has skyrocketed in the last few months.

“It was not only us who left, our children also left and then their friends, who beg us to help them disappear from the country where youth unemployment has hit negative record and you are saying things that have no basis.”

“Sorry, which country are you describing? Because in Greece with EU money you will hire a total of 2,000 law graduates, with a salary of 480€ (that is below the minimum wage), you had them unpaid for 110 days and you had them pay social security contributions from their own pocket.”

“This is a lack of respect! This is not a pre-election delirium but the statements of the prime minister of an impoverished country, with an immature democracy, where basic human rights in the fields of health, work and justice are violated by a bunch of criminals!”

“Amazing quality of life while the basic salary is not enough to cover basic needs and we live with our parents, and you made sure that young people never see even the slightest increase as the work experience we acquire is not even recognized.”

“With youth unemployment* at 47%, the basic wage being almost equivalent to a monthly rent, with third world health care, what exactly do you mean by quality of life? Either you are completely stupid or you think we are idiots and these two are just as dangerous.”

“Excellent quality of life, unless it snows and everything paralyzes. Or if it rains. Or if it is hot. Or if someone gets sick. Or if you fall into the hands of hooligans with scythes. Or if you are young and has a 40% chance of not find a job.Or if you are a woman. Or if you are not the boss’s son.”

“AMAZING QUALITY OF LIFE. Unless you get sick, you need to go to the police or the judiciary and you can need to survive natural disasters, attacks by mobsters, fascists and rapists. BUT there is nothing to compare with the sun in Greece.”

“Amazing quality of life for whom ??? For the famiglia and its loved ones? Because for us life has become an endless distress! How will we pay bills, how will we eat, how will we manage to stay healthy because woe to us if we get sick !!!! Do you want more ???? RESIGN !!!!”

Several Greeks noted that not only those who left do not want to come back but also those living here want to migrate.

Some posted also pictures from the recent snowfalls where some 4,000 people remained stranded for almost 30 hours at the ring highway of the Greek capital Athens.

  1. There is no hope for Greece as long as it remains a subservient lapdog of Brussels, NATO and the ECB. Greece will resurrect itself when the whole EU collapses, which is a certainty. Thank God.

  2. yeah, greece is great if you are rich, and especially if you acquired your riches by dubious means – as everyone is treated as if he is already assumed a criminal, actual criminals neither stand out nor get any particular bad consequences here!
for actual working citizens who don’t have connections to the ‘system’ , greece is a fast moving treadmill and we’re already exhausted. ive lived much better quality of life abroad, especially when you consider the stress of not knowing how you will feed yourself after next month, or how you will handle even a small emergency like car repairs of god forbid some problem with your health.. and i’m one of the lucky ones who, working abroad, managed to build a house here so at least i’m not paying rent. moving back home was a very bad decision though.
maybe if i was a millionaire some of those ‘tax incentives’ would mean anything to me.
and dont even get started on his insane ramblings about the ‘technology’ sector. Anyone serious in that business knows that for a greek trying to get such work, which is all abroad anyway, his competition is in bulgaria and the ukraine where people there pay taxes at 10 and 5 percent respectively. Those guys can undercut any greek worker by half and they still put a generous wage in their pockets every month whereas to compete, here in greece we again barely make ends meet.

  3. Im afraid to say its not much better anywhere else,Ireland is very expensive to live, you pay 60 euro to see a GP,not specialist,UK is only for big earners, couples both working feed themselves from food banks, nearly 3,000 euro for car insurance in Ireland per year because the government allows companies to rip people off.Try to go to the doctor in UK,no way, tell your symptoms over the phone, some untrained person will say…take Depon…my dear, and call again later…by which time you are dead.Children are screamed at by teachers if their grey depressing uniform is not quite correct there.Eat or pay heating there, and Ireland you must get your depression tablets for the non stop rain and grey skies, together with the humungus rents so that there is nothing left of your wages. So what to do,where to go to escape?

  4. Quality of life is great… if you’re a tourist. The rest of us are just here to serve them.

  5. On my small island we have had 2 years of no (no Greek) tourists – and so for me, no job. I receive 200E per month in support. Take out my property tax, electricity and water bills and I have 145E – or around 4.90Euro per day to live on. But on the good side I live close to the beach.

  6. What can you expect from a government so out of touch? None of their members got anything on merit; daddy’s boy, basketball player, loukoumades maker – it’s a wonderfully corrupt and great system that serves THEM; to put these IDIOTS in places of power just so they can preach to you how great life is under their rule. Are you kidding?
Elikas said it, only they missed, “Or if you use electricity. Or if you’re literally anyone breathing who is not connected to ND and the wealthy elite”.
I used to dream about moving back to Greece but I now realize that Greece is good only for one thing: vacation.

  7. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is just another WEF operative. The only advice or comments i would take from him are the contact details for his barber. Imagine if many Greeks had not left Greece, what the rate of youth unemployment would be, even now 47% (wow), I knew youth unemployment was high in “touristy saesonal” areas but this 47% is Greece all over! Maybe the Greeks should transfer the Ionian Island back to Britain (1862) for a better future as the Greek government do not seem capable.

  8. Mitsotakis is now a “stand-up” comedian, but really needs a better joke writer.
    😎.

  9. That Mitzotakis is completely cut off from reality – I think that is no topic worth discussing anymore.

But for all the youth I want to tell you something that I experienced 8 years ago – but read and decide for yourself …..

I got the task to establish a branch of my company, a German one specializes in SAP, here in Greece. We were looking for junior and senior consultants alike. I started offers for junior consultants (fresh from university) from 45K, for senior consultants up from 60K/year as a starting salary. 40 hours/week, 30 working days holiday/year, every overtime hour paid and 10 to 25% benefits on top of the yearly salary. After trial period the possibility to get a company car and free personal use of mobile and laptop. Remote Work at 80 to 90%, traveling times counting as work time.

I started contacting people over LinkedIn here in Greece. From the 100 people I contacted, 10 send me an answer. From the 10 who sent me an answer, for 7 of them the work conditions were not good enough. I had one, fresh from the university, who demanded a salary of not less then 100K/year.

The other three stated in a personal job interview, that their workload was up to 60-70 hours per week without getting paid for overtime, had a salary of about 15K/year. All three did not agree to the 6 month trial period, which will be payed, of course, to the normal conditions, so they didn’t take the offer. All of them were less then 27 years old.

After this experience we stopped the project completely.

So please decide for yourself what the Greece youth is up to ….
