The supply of natural gas to Greece continues without any disruption, Environment and Energy Minister Kostas Skrekas said on Friday. He reassured that domestic reserves – lignite coal, hydroelectric, diesel power generation, liquefied natural gas reserves in Revythousa – can meet the demand in the case of supply crisis.
Chairing an emergency meeting of the Crisis Management Team at the environment and energy ministry, he stressed
“Unfortunately, Russia’s attack on Ukraine is fueling a severe international energy crisis that has pushed gas and electricity prices to unimaginable levels, threatening households and businesses. We have repeatedly stated that we will continue to support society for as long as it takes.”
At the meeting, the latest developments unfolding following the Russian forces’ invasion of Ukraine were evaluated and all scenarios – even the most adverse – were examined regarding the adequacy of Greece’s supply of gas and electricity,” Skrekas added.
45% of its needs in natural gas Greece covered in 2021 from Russia via the TAP pipeline via Azerbaijan and Turkey.
The country has, however, a list of measures and alternative ways.
