Solaris, the super luxury yacht of sanctioned Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich has docked in Turkey’s Aegean Sea resort of Bodrum, Turkish media reports said Monday. A group of Ukrainians staged a protest on an inflatable boat and were detained.
The Solaris docked in Bodrum after a zick-zack sailing through the Mediterranean Sea for the last eight days. It was spotted south of Crete on Friday and off Rhodes on Sunday (KTG reported here) and continued to south Turkey while it was registered as “awaiting orders.”
Turkey’s private NTV television said the Bermuda-flagged luxury yacht Solaris docked at the southern port in Turkey — which has not joined sanctions on Russia — after departing from Montenegro.
According to Associated Press, a group of Ukrainians carrying Ukrainian flags with the words “No War” emblazoned on them boarded a small motor boat and tried to prevent the yacht from docking, the Sozcu newspaper reported.
According to Sozcu, a Coast Guard boat arrived after 20 minutes and detained the protesters.
Meanwhile, Abramovich’s second luxury yacht ECLIPSE has been spotted sailing south of the island of Crete on Monday. It is moving towards Rhodes and it looks as if it is also heading for Turkey.
Six days ago, the yacht Eclipse was located north of Algeria, traveling east after a transatlantic crossing from St Martin in the Caribbean Sea.
The owner has apparently decided to move both his luxury yachts to Turkey to protect them from possible confiscation.
Roman Abramovich is believed to be in Moscow, where he was found a few days ago flying with his private jet from Tel Aviv via Istanbul.
And Sultan Erdogan wants the EU to accept Turkey as a member state? That will never happen.
