Greece has offered to provide treatment to Ukrainian children suffering from cancer. Health Minister Thanos Plevris made this offer to his Ukrainian counterpart Victor Liashko through a teleconference.
The main topic of discussion was the transfer of children suffering from cancer, as well as their families, from Ukraine to the Pediatric Oncology Unit-Marianna V. Vardinogianni “ELPIDA” of the “Agia Sofia” children hospital in Athens, in order to complete their treatment.
This move was an initiative of the president of the Association “ELPIDA-Association of Friends of Children with Cancer” Marianna V. Vardinogianni, which will ensure the safe transfer of children from Ukraine to Greece, as well as providing hospitality for their families in the ELPIDA Hostel or in apartments near the Oncology Unit for as long as it is needed.
In addition, Liashko asked Plevris to consider the possibility of accepting Ukrainian people wounded in the war, for their recovery and rehabilitation in healthcare facilities in Greece.
