Prosecutor investigates modelling agency for leaking women’s data to dating sites

A prosecutor in Thessaloniki has ordered a police investigation into a modelling agency regarding the breach of personal data of young women. Pictures of the women were posted on dating websites without their consent. Furthermore, the dating sites users were paying a fee in order to chat with the women. but ultimately they would chat with a site employee.

Under the pretext that their pictures will be hosted at relevant competitions, the modelling agency owner allegedly urged young models to sign a contract that agrees to the terms of each competition. However, photos and other personal information, such as IDs, ended up on dating sites, something not included in the contract, reports local media voria.gr.

According to reports, the fraud was revealed when a stranger found a young woman on social media and told her that he paid for years to the dating site in order to exchange messages with her.

Most probably the man was ‘chatting with an agency or dating site employee.

The woman turned to police and the case found its way to the court.

In the relevant case file there is reportedly the testimony of a second woman who allegedly fell also victim to the same fraud.

At the court session on Tuesday, the Single-Member Misdemeanor Court ruled that it had no jurisdiction to adjudicate the case and referred it to a higher court for the act of breach of personal data.

Police investigation aims to find out whether the private data of more young women have been misused.
