Greece’s Energy Regulator Authority (RAE) increases charges in the electricity distribution network as of May 1 and thus retroactive.
The charge increases reaching over 7 euros will be collected by the Greek Electricity Distribution Network Operator (DEDDIE) and is reportedly “intended for investments and other [undefined!]expenses of the company.”
With a (deliberate) decision on March 30, RAE proceeded to readjust the charges related to connection power and energy. The new prices will go into effect on May 1.
Comparing the new and current charges the total cost that a household with a single-phase 8 kVA power connection will pay will rise by 22%.
A family electrified with a 25 kVA three-phase connection will be burdened by approximately 77%.
However, in the total cost of the electricity bill (only the competitive and regulated charges) for the first case the total charge is of the order of 2.5% and for the second case 7.5%.
Until now, low voltage household consumers pay a sum for the distribution network.
This is calculated based on the unit fixed charge, which is currently at 0.52 euro/kVA, as well as the unit energy charge, which is currently at 0.02130 euro per kilowatt hour.
A mathematical formula for the calculation of the DEDDIE fees requires electricity experts to confirm it and come through the complicated issue.
No average consumer is able to understand it.
752.7% increase
RAE by its decision adjusts the aforementioned charges. The first (unitary fixed charge) soars… to 4.434 euros/kVA. This is an increase of 752.7%. The second unit energy charge, on the other hand, is reduced by 33.5% to 0.01415 euros per kilowatt hour, notes newspaper tanea.
Following the RAE decision, the annual charge of the electricity distribution network that a household with a single-phase connection of 8 kVA and an annual consumption of 2,592 kilowatt hours will pay is 72,148 euros.
At current prices, he pays 59.37 euros. This increase is of the order of 22%.
According to an example calculated by allazorevma.gr, a family living in a residence with a three-phase connection of 25 kVA and an annual electricity consumption of 3,750 kilowatt hours will pay a total amount for the charges of the electricity distribution network of 173.75 euros. With current charges it pays 98.45 euros. The increase is 77%. On the whole account the charge is 7.5%.
The last adjustment of distribution network charges was in 2020 when the amount requested by DEDDIE was 743.59 million euros.
Note that state subsidy for households has been significantly reduced as of April.
PS Greek social media users lash out at the fee increase claiming “electricity suppliers apparently did not earn enough in the last months even though they cashed the state subsidy paid by taxpayers money.”
Never a moment to take a financial breath in this country.
this hits especially hard on those people who use _very little_ electricity. seeing these numbers of thousands of kilowatt-hours per year, i compare that to my own house, where use is only a few hundred kilowatt-hours a year (just some lights and the washing machine , which is always run with cold water). this essentially jacks up the base rate on low-consuming customers astronomically. hit the poorest people… again.
