Greek police confiscated over 100 kilos of cocaine and more than 100,000 euros in cash. The drugs had reached the port of Thessaloniki via a cargo vessel from Latin America.
According to police, nine people have been arrested, so far, among them is allegedly one of the leaders of the drug trafficking ring.
As the police operation continues, more are arrests are reportedly due.
Police operation was launched following a tip off that drugs were in a specific cargo vessel in the port of the city in northern Greece.
The drug traffickers had loaded the drugs from the cargo to several vehicles they had rented. they were caught while driving near Diavata area.
The cargo vessel appears to have arrived in Thessaloniki via the city’s port, from a Latin America country.
It is not the first time. drugs from Latin America reach the port of Thessaloniki or Piraeus as apparently drug traffickers use Greek ports to push them to Europe.
