Urban train ISAP drives with open door between two stations

A train on metro line 1 of urban train ISAP Piraeus – Kifissia drove with an open door in the passenger cabin between two stations. The driver warned passengers to stand clear from the door.

The incident on May 30, became known through a statement issued by the STASY Workers. Union on the occasion of the fatal industrial accident in Perama shipyard repair zone.

“Yesterday an ISAP train moved with an open door in the passenger cabin between two stations and with the conductor making a warning announcement to passengers to stay away from the door.

This incident was attributed to a hardware failure,” the statement said.

“In yet another incident, a train did not stop at the correct position along the station’s platform and continued to the next one without boarding or disembarking passengers,” it added.

The union attributes these incidents to the lack of personnel, to the lack of spare parts which results in the use of spare parts from decommissioned wires, to the age of the rolling stock, but also to the inadequacy of service agents.

The union also reports that the heavy maintenance of the trains has almost stopped, while following written protests out of court, repairs have just begun on the Faliro – Piraeus section.

Finally, there is talk of “a wrong choice by the political leadership not to procure new rolling stock but to reconstruct the old”, while the reconstruction of the older trains has not yet started.
