Part of the city of Lamia evacuated as wildfire burns houses

Residents of the city of Lamia in Central Greece were ordered to evacuate on Wednesday afternoon as a wildfire that has already burned down houses in the capital of the regional unit of Phthiotis.

The fire broke out in the north of the city in the area of Afanos and no firefighting forces were able to get it in control timely due to the strong winds in the area.

Message by Civil Protection via <112>.

At the 2021 census, the city of Lamia had 60,000 inhabitants.

PS If we now see wildfires burning houses in the urban tissue all I can say is “evacuate to another planet asap!”
