A private helicopter crashed on the runway of Samos airport on Friday morning thus leading to delays in air traffic. The helicopter operator, a Turkish national, is reported to be in good health.
The helicopter of Turkish Mavi Air had taken off from the island of Paros and stopped to Samos for refueling before returning to its base in Turkey.
The accident occurred during the landing procedure, The helicopter hit the runway and overturned.
Ground staff rushed to the helicopter spreading foam to prevent any fuel explosion, while the pilot was taken with an ambulance to the public hospital.
Τhe reasons for the crash are being investigated.

Today, July 28, at 08:30, a private helicopter crashed on the runway of Samos Airport “Aristarchos of Samos” during its landing. The helicopter had departed earlier from the island of Paros, with its final destination being Bodrum, Turkey, and an intermediate refueling stop in Samos. Immediately, the airport’s emergency mechanism was activated, and the helicopter’s operator, who was the only passenger, was transported to the General Hospital of Samos “Agios Panteleimon” for purely precautionary reasons.
As a result of the above, the operation of the airport’s runway will be suspended for operational reasons until 12:00 PM, pending further notice.
