Thessaloniki: Delivery worker punches pedestrian to death

A 50-year-old man died after a 27-year-old delivery worker punched him in the head beginning of the week.

The brutal incident took place on a pedestrian street in downtown Thessaloniki, where the delivery worker was moving with his motorcycle despite the fact that this is forbidden.

The victim reportedly confronted the delivery worker for riding his motorcycle on the pedestrian walkway.

Subsequently, the delivery worker physically attacked the 50-year-old man who was transferred to a city hospital with an ambulance, however, he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Wednesday.

The perpetrator was arrested and was taken to prosecutor on Thursday. After his testimony he was charged with felony for “grievious bodily harm” and was taken to prison.

According to media information, the perpetrator claimed that the victim started the argument that continued for several meters. A short distance away, the delivery man again mounted the pavement on the motorbike he was driving, the victim followed him and continued to verbally attack him, at one point he stopped and punched the victim in the face.

The autopsy report attributed the victim’s death to an “injury in the back of the head” most likely caused when the 50-year-old fell on the pavement after he got punched.
