FRAPORT: Passenger traffic at Greece’s regional airports surpasses previous record highs

In the first ten months of 2023, Greece’s 14 regional airports served 32.3 million passengers, up 8.4% compared to 2022 and 12% up compared to 2019, managing company Fraport said on Tuesday.

The data was presented by George Vilos, Fraport Greece’s Executive Director for Commercial & Business Development, at a press briefing held on Tuesday.

Air passenger traffic at these airports is estimated to reach 33.8 million passengers by year’s end, compared to 31.2 million in 2022, it was noted. The top ten overseas markets were the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Israel and the Czech Republic.

This upward trend in passenger traffic reflects the competitiveness of the Greek tourism product, which includes the upgrading of tourism-related infrastructures, noted Vilos.

Fraport Greece has invested over 1.8 billion euros to create modern and secure gateways to the country, noted Vilos, while 50 million euros is invested annually for the further modernization of the airports.
