“King Charles contacted me after diagnosis,” says Abbot Ephraim

King Charles III contacted an elder in the so-called Monks’ Republic, the Mount Athos, “after he was diagnosed with cancer,” Elder Ephraim told media on Tuesday.

Speaking to ANT1 TV, the abbot of Vatopedi monastery Elder Ephraim revealed also that King Charles visited Vatopedi eight times and since then they have kept in contact.

“Charles has a spiritual culture within, he knows about spiritual life,” Ephraim told ANT1.

“He contacted me after the cancer diagnosis, I believe he will overcome it,” the abbot added.

Charles’ visits to Mount Athos

The first time the King officially traveled to Greece was on November 22, 1998, fourteen months after Diana’s tragic death.

The then heir to the British throne was an official guest of the then president Kostis Stephanopoulos.

Charles visited the Vatopedi Monastery, where he met Abbot Ephraim. Since then, his visits to Athos increased, media reported.

It is characteristic that from spring 2003 to May 2004 he visited Mount Athos three times.

Always accompanied by usually two bodyguards and politely refusing the presence of Greek officials.

At the same time, there is always the order to keep the identity of the distinguished visitor to Mt Athos a secret.

Last time Charles visited Mt Athos and his visit was not kept secret was in 2017, while he was spending summer vacations with Camila.

  1. I am glad Charles has a spiritual lige. Itwill take a lot of good karma to live down hiss atrocious tratment of Diana. Maybe Camilla shoud go, too.
