Did you know that Greece is a nuclear power? I’m sure you didn’t. But, now, you do know. Based on reports by two mainstream media on Tuesday, has a nuclear reactor at the University of Thessaloniki and a group of people wearing hoods tried to steal some plates of uranium.
These villian hoodies – most probably: students! – attacked their target with a chainsaw.
I’m not kidding., folks! This is what daily tanea reported on its front page and Skai TV.
TA NEA: “Nuclear Break in in AUTH” – How the Tragedy was averted in the last minute.
SKAI TV: Almost a tragedy at AUTH: Hooded men attacked with a chainsaw a site with a nuclear reactor – The rector denies
The attack took place in the basement of the School of Physics and Mathematics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) – Those arrested tried to take the uranium plates.
According to these media reports:
A very dangerous – even potentially fatal – attack took place a few days ago at AUTH, before the police operation on Saturday that ended up in 49 arrests.
The operation was carried out because the police had information that a group of people tried to remove the sheet metal outside the library under construction, in the former occupation of the Biological Department.
Finally, according to the newspaper “TA NEA”, it now turns out that hooded men had attacked with a chainsaw in the basement of the School of Physics, where a nuclear reactor is located.
In fact, some of the arrested -occupiers tried to take the uranium plates from the reactor casing, at the risk of releasing some radioactivity from uranium rods or from a special neutron device.
Rector denies the “fatal news”
Τhe rector of AUTH, Charalambos Feidas, denied the “horrifying news” saying that about a month and a half ago, the padlock on the door leading to the basement where the reactor is located was found to be broken, but the area where the reactor is located was not violated.
Speaking to OPEN TV, rector Feidas stated that there was absolutely no attempt to enter the space where the nuclear reactor is located in the previous days.
“There is no violation of the space where the nuclear reactor is located and there is no case of energy leakage,” he stressed.
To local media thestival.gr rector Feidas clarified that there was no radioactivity leak and that such a thing is impossible to happen, as the specific nuclear reactor is used only for educational purposes.
“This is a sub-critical nuclear reactor that has been used purely for educational purposes since 1974. There is no question of leakage or ignition. It is subject to all regulatory controls by the relevant Greek and European commission. The sub-critical nuclear reactor is kept in an underground area where there is an armored door and an alarm,” he explained adding that since the incident in February, security measures have been increased.
Prosecutor Investigates
The 49 arrestees of Sunday have been accused of disrupting the operation of the service, damaging foreign property, violating the law on weapons and flares. They were released and their trial is set on March 29. Media reported that the arrestees were brought to ’emergency court’ on Monday but were released as there were no witnesses to strengthen the violation charges.
Tuesday noon, the head of the Thessaloniki First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, ordered the prosecutor to conduct a criminal investigation into the TA NEA about “an attempted attack by hooded men with a chainsaw in the basement area of the School of Physics and Mathematics of the AUTH where a nuclear reactor is located in order to occupy again the School of Biology of the AUTH.”
The investigated offenses reportedly concern the following: distinguished deterioration of a thing used for common benefit, commonly dangerous damage (by complicity) from which danger to people could arise and serious disruption of public service operation (by complicity).
It should be recalled that the AUTH has had a low-power reactor lab setup since 1971.
PS Question is to find out who prepared such a nonsense “Almost Dooms-Day” scenario and leaked it to the press.
The usual mean Greeks blame the police that had to justify the 49 arrests, somehow, and high-ranking officers close to the Minister of Citizens Protection.
Some speak of “chain reaction of stupidity” by both the script writer and the journalists who posted such a fictitious scenario.

So I read this three times, still dont get it,there was a break in OR NOT?and did they break in so that the world, the public could be informed of the presence of radio active material which perhaps should not be there,is dangerous in its setting there and perhaps doesnt have the required licenses to be there,we need to know these things for our safety and maybe they are breaking the law in keeping it there and maybe the hoodies want us to know about it being there which we do now.Its been a secret for a long time.Probably not fictitious at all, leaks to the press,my goodness, not in this day and age, people are too scared they might disappear.
you really didn’t get it
the reactor was never a secret. it’s an open-pool reactor of the sort found at many universities and research facilities – they are often also used on the side to produce specialized isotopes for e.g. medical use. I can recall having seen photos of the greek reactor at least 20 years ago. academic papers written aon reasearch done at the site openly mention the reactor. much more likely, the motivation was either some moronic far-left ‘green’ nonsense or else equally moronic ideas of the materials being in some way valuable to sell (such reactors use unenriched uranium which on the market is worth almost nothing , and is in any case pretty seriously controlled)
a moronic scenario by gov morons to change the news agenda. it didn’t work. we’re safe now lol
I didn’t get it either 🙂
perception issues?
Could be – my perception is that anything reported in the MSM is utter bo****** and the same goes for (so-called) alternative MSM.
