Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Friday announced an increase in the minimum wage to 830 euros per month as of April 1, 2024. The prime minister made the announcement during a cabinet meeting.
The increase is 6.4% and effectively 50 euros gross per month with the minimum wage to increase to €830 from €780 since April 2023.
The increase will also have an effect on allowances and other benefits.Among others, the unemployment allowance will increase from currently €479 to 510 euros.
The minimum wage increase will affect approximately 600,000 workers and the unemployment allowance rise another 140,000 people.
This is the fourth increase in the minimum wage since 2019.
The General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) said in a statement that
“the minimum wage increase that does not meet the needs of the workers.”
This increase does not, in any case, ensure that a person paid the minimum wage will not fall below the poverty limit and have a decent standard of living,” the GSEE added.
The Workers’ Confederation recalled that it has decided a nationwide strike on April 17, 2024.

Sadly this measley 50€ is not available to all minimum wage workers. It’s theater.
