A drone washed ashore of a beach in Heraklio, Crete, on Sunday, and many beach-goers got panicked thinking it was a drone from Iran!
According to local media, swimmers and sunbathers at Analipsi beach in Hersonissos were stunned to see a remote controlled aerial object washed ashore.
They immediately called authorities and the mystery was quickly solved.
The object was an inactive aerial target that is often used in shooting ranges for testing weapon systems.
The initial examination suggested that the object had been in the sea for quite some time, as it showed strong signs of rust on its metallic parts
Authorities collected the object and transferred it to the shooting range on the island.
According to local media cretaone.gr, the object is a target manufactured by a company based in Great Britain, aimed at training crews operating anti-aircraft systems.
