Sahara dust returns with stormy winds. temperature drop, rainfalls

The fair weather scenery in Greece is forecast to change in the upcoming days with a ‘cocktail’ of Sahara dust and rainfalls, gusty winds and temperature drop, much lower than the seasonal average.

According to meteorologists’ preliminary reports, the weather change starts tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, May 8, and last until Saturday, May 11, 2024.

According to state broadcaster ERT meteorologist, Anastasia Tiraskis, we will see the mercury drop to temperatures much lower than normal for the season.

On Thursday and Friday the weather will be unstable with local rainfalls and sporadic storms. The winds will strengthen and there will be increased concentrations of  Sahara dust in the atmosphere, mainly in the center and south of Greece.

Temperature will drop and fluctuate at lower than normal seasonal levels as in several areas the maximum will be below 20 degrees Celsius.

Τhe weather change is forecast to affect large parts of the country including Athens and Attica.

It will initially affect Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace and later also the Peloponnese, Sterea, the Cyclades islands, Crete and the Dodecanese (on Friday) with temperatures ranging 23-24 degrees Celsius.

Sahara dust is forecast to affect mainly the West and the South of the country.

Winds are forecast to blow initially east-south-east and on Friday they will turn north with intensity of 6-7 Beaufort.

However, from next week onward, temperatures will rise again to 30 degrees  Celsius.
