Albanian man dead in “mafia-style” shooting in Athens suburb

A 32-year-old Albanian man was shot dead in Vyronas suburb of Athens on Thursday night. He was inside his parked car together with his wife, waiting for their son to return from the nearby park.

The victim was shot in the head and in the neck by assailants riding a motorcycle.
Right after the shooting, the victims’ 37-year-old wife, also an Albanian national, opened the door screaming, however, she did not suffer any harm.
Panic broke among the residents of Vyronas who had gathered in cafes around Agios Lazaros Square to watch a football game. They started to run away from the crime spot.Eyewitnesses told media that they hear 2 to 3 shots but they thought they were sound flares, still used almost a week after Easter.

Citing police sources and Albanian media reports, Greek media reported that the victim was member of the Albanian mafia involved in killings in the neighboring country. According to state broadcaster ERT, rivals were after him since 2021, It is believed that the shooter was a member of that rival gang.

The victim was reportedly involved in at least one attempted murder, robbery and other criminal acts in Albania where he also provided “protection.”

In all probability the assailants “signed” the man’s death contract in Albania and knew very well which days he would be in Athens. It is possible that the perpetrators will try to flee to Albania immediately, if they have not already done so, daily ethnos.gr reported.

The victim was permanently living in Albania and had traveled to Greece two days before his death to visit his wife and their 7-year-old son.

The couple was waiting in the car for the grandmother to bring their son from the park where he was playing with other children.

Police has speed up investigation hoping to apprehend the shooters before they flee to Albania.
