Proastiakos wagon on fire; passengers in panic but safe

A fire in a wagon of the suburban train Proastiakos caused panic among passengers, with firefighters rushing to the scene to avoid the worst.

According to local media, the fire broke out while the train was moving in Akrata, a town in Achaia, western Pelopponese on Monday morning.

Passengers and crew evacuated the wagon on time and no body was injured, local media pelop.gr reported.

The Fire Service operated with 10 firefighters and 4 vehicles, and manged to take the fire under control before the flames spread in the surrounding green area.

The reasons for the fire are being investigated.

So far, there has been no official statement by the Hellenic Train on the matter.
