Two arrested for hate crime in Thessaloniki bus

A man and a woman have been arrested in northern Greece for assaulting a bus passenger because of her race. The two arrestees, a 37-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man,  are facing hate crime charges.

The incident took place in a public bus in the city of Thessaloniki on Monday morning.

The victim, a 23-year-old Congolese national, was riding a bus in the Thessaloniki suburb of Kalamaria.

According to a police announcement, the suspects “insulted the woman’s race and religion” and moved towards her in a “threatening manner,” while the 37-year-old also grabbed her arm.

The suspects were be taken to prosecutor.
