Greece’s National Meteorological Service EMY issued an emergency bulletin warning of a bad weather front with temperature drop forecast to hit the country for three days.
Forecast are heavy rainfalls and storms accompanied by a high frequency of lightning and hail falls locally. Temporarily the phenomena will be accompanied by very strong winds (burinia).
According to EMY, cold and unstable air masses in the upper atmosphere will affect the country from today, Thursday, August 29, until Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Thursday, August 29
In the mid-afternoon hours, the mainland will be affected, mainly Epirus, Sterea (mainly in the western parts), Peloponnese (western and central parts), central Macedonia (mainly Halkidiki).
Friday, August 30
1. In the morning hours on the Ionian Islands.
2. From midday until the evening hours in Epirus, Peloponnese, Central Greece (mainly in the central and eastern parts, including Attica), Evia, Sporades, Thessaly, central Macedonia (mainly Halkidiki) and eastern Macedonia.
Saturday, August 31
1. From the morning hours in Thessaly, the Sporades, Evia.
2. Midday – afternoon hours in Epirus, Sterea (including Attica) and Peloponnese.
Temperature is forecast at 33-35 degrees Celsius in the mainland and 31-34 C in the islands.
Winds will be blowing in the open sea with 4-5 Beaufort. however, during storms the gusts will have much higher intensity.
