Poll: Ruling ND flies low, winners are small left and nationalist parties

Ruling conservative party New Democracy keeps flying low in public opinion preference, while main opposition SYRIZA occupies a place after socialist PASOK that comes second, the latest poll conducted by MRB has shown..

However, Greeks’ disapproval of ND policies does not bring wins for the big opposition parties but rather for the small  parties right and left of the political spectrum.

According to a poll conducted by MRB on behalf of Open TV, ND leads with 11.1% over PASOK, SYRIZA comes third, nationalist Greek solution is a breath away from the third place.

Winners appear to be two parties with female leaders: left-wing Course of Freedom (Zoi Konstantopoulou) and nationalist Voice of Reason (Aphrodite Latinopoulou).

In voting intention the registered results are:

  • ND: 21.6% – 27.7% (28% in Euro elections June 2023)
  • SYRIZA: 8.5% – 10.9%
  • PASOK: 10.5% – 13.4%
  • communist KKE: 7.3% – 9.3%
  • Greek Solution: 8% – 10.2%
  • re;igiou Niki: 3.2% – 4.1%
  • Course for Freedom: 5.3% – 6.8%
  • Voice of Reason: 3.4% – 4.4%
  • Varoufakis’ MeRA25: 2.3% – 2.9%
  • New Left: 2.2% – 2.9%
  • Other party : 7.5%

Threshold for entrance in the Parliament is 3%.

Indicator of optimism

Broader public discontent about the policies of the ruling party, and the general situation in the country is shown in the MRB poll.

To the question “How are things in the country” respondents said at

  • 63.3% “fairly bad/very bad” – a rise of 7% compared to June 2023with the percentage jumping by seven percentage points compared to June 2024.
  • 10.8% answered “Very good/Fairly good”
  • 25.6% responded “Neither good nor bad”

The poll was conducted between August 20 and 30, 2024.
