Flash-floods in central Athens as storm ATENA hits Greece (videos)

Storm ATENA: Fifteen to twenty minutes of rainfall were enough to flood the streets on Greek capital Athens on Tuesday afternoon.

Motorists were trapped in their cars, vehicles were swept away and some went on the car top calling for help.

Note that the majority of the pictures and the videos below posted by Greek social media users were taken in central Athens and districts.

One noted: “It is now obvious that climate change has clogged all the gutters in the main roads of Athens, which under normal climate conditions they should have unclogged by themselves”

So far, the Fire Service received over 50 calls for pumping waters, removed falling trees and rescue people from cars trapped in water and in elevators as in some areas there was power outage due to storm ATENA.

Meteorologist had warned of the upcoming storm that would swept across the country including the capital of Greece.
