A mysterious theft in a building housing two ministries in downtown Athens: Thieves walked in early Tuesday morning, and walked out with 17 brand new laptops still in their package from a room in the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family.
Police are investigating the theft of 30 laptops from offices of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and the Family in downtown Athens early Tuesday morning.
The theft of the devices is believed to have occurred after 6.15 a.m., when unknown individuals gained access to the building, which is located on Dragatsaniou Street, on Klafthmonos Square, together with the Labor Ministry.
The thieves reportedly first entered the IT department of the Labor Ministry on the fifth floor, but left without removing anything.
They then proceeded to the seventh floor, where the payment and expenditure offices of the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family are located.
After searching the premises, they removed 30 laptops and fled.
According to exclusive information of news website iEidiseis.gr , the perpetrators are allegedly two young people who took at least 17 laptops. The computers were brand new and were located in an office warehouse located on the 7th floor.
In total, the ministries had received a month ago 38 laptops to distribute to the employees. The 17 that had been stolen had not been given to employees yet.
The investigations also focus on the possibility that someone may have given the information to the perpetrators, that is, someone who knew that the laptops were there reportedly still in their boxes.
The two perpetrators left through the back door of the building.
Police has started an investigation.
