Third Greek island declared in “state of emergency” due to earthquakes

The Municipality of Anafi was placed under a state of emergency on Thursday for the management of the repercussions of the continuing seismic activity in the region.

The decision was made by Civil Protection Secretary General Vassilis Papageorgiou, and the state of emergency will be in effect through March 13.

Amorgos and Thera (Santorini) Municipalities have also been under a state of emergency for over a week now, for the same reason.

As Papageorgiou noted in a related document, the state of emergency on all three islands will expire after March 13, 2025.

The action places the earthquake-shaken islands on high priority for emergency and related services.
