Even though the earthquakes swarm has essentially eased, the Greek government in implementing a series of so-called “Emergency Measures” on the islands of Santorini and Thirasia. The measures will be in force for two months.
The measures provides bans for access and approach as well as conditions for controlled access to specific areas of Santorini and Thirasia, for the protection of the island’s residents, visitors and workers.
The Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) for the adoption of emergency Civil Protection measures in Santorini was published in the Government Gazette on Monday, March 14, 2025. The measures will be in force for two months after its publication.
Emergency Measures
For the Port of Athinios and the road network of Ormos Athinios (new port of Fira), it is decided to take measures to control the traffic of disembarking vehicles, with priority for the disembarkation of passenger cars and then buses and trucks, so that there is no traffic load on the road, with the ultimate aim of reducing the time they spend on it.
Access to and stay in the port area of the Old Port of Fira and in the area that includes the Cable Car facilities and the Fira – Old Port Path, is temporarily prohibited.
The ban on access and stay also applies to Korfos Thirasia as well as to the eastern part of the settlement of Armeni Oia.
In the settlement of Ammoudi, the movement and passage of all types of vehicles is prohibited on the municipal road from the intersection of the Oia ring road to the port of Ammoudi (only supply vehicles are excluded at specific times), as well as access and stay on the walking paths “Ammoudi-Akrotiri Agios Nikolaos” and “Oia-Ammoudi”.
In all three areas, any residential use, hotel operation, short-term or long-term lease and food etc shop operation is temporarily suspended.
Sea access by any type of ship and floating vessel will be permitted only after approval by the Port Authority of Thira.
