Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Wednesday the increase of the monthly minimum wage to €880 gross as of April 1, 2025. More than 1.6 million citizens will directly benefit from the increase, the PM stressed.
The minimum wage will increase from €830 gross (€740 net) to €880 euros, that is 50 euros gross or €34 to €43 net depending of the family status of employee.
For example, a monthly net increase of €34 is for employees without children, without other income and €43 for employees with 2 or more children without other income, after payment of social security contributions and income tax.
The increase will create also a corresponding increase in the minimum daily wage from 37.07 euros to 39.30 euros.
The increase will specifically affect 575,000 workers in the private sector, the public servants, those receiving 19 different benefits (marriage, maternity, unemployment, etc.), as well as indirectly the average wage.
It still needs to be clarified whether and how the increase will affect the taxes minimum wage earners have been paying so far, as the annual tax-free income has not be raised.
PM Mitsotakis reiterated that his goal is to have the minimum wage rise to €950 gross by the end of his second term. That is in 2027.
it is recalled that the Premier has been announcing again and again the minimum wage increase for the last two years.
Government sources told media that the minimum wage will be increased by 35.4% compared to 2019.
