A floating barge operating as a refreshment bar appeared in a NATURA 2000 protected beach on Koufonisia islands in the south Aegean Sea early on Saturday evening.
Locals who saw the floating kitsch-monster informed the Coast Guard that rushed to the area and officers arrested the captain.
Citing Coast Guard sources, daily ethnos.gr reported that this is a barge that operates as a floating refreshment bar and that it sailed to Italida beach on Saturday evening, July 11, 2026. The operator of the unique bar had not previously received the necessary license.
At the sight of the floating canteen, the residents called the Coast Guard, which took charge of the situation.
During the inspection, it was found that the vessel did not have a license to engage in commercial activity and, while it remained in the area, it did not carry out any commercial activity.
The Naxos Prosecutor’s Office ordered the removal of the barge from the beach and the arrest of its captain, as part of the search warrant.
The Naxos Port Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation into the case.
