Police responded with excessive use of tear gas and sound flares.

In addition, the rioters set up barricades, garbage bins and parked vehicles on fire, a multi-storey apartment was almost engulfed in flames and one shop was damaged, media reported.

At least 10 cars have been totally destroyed, another 20 as well as parked motorbikes suffered serious damages, state broadcaster ERT reported.

There was a strong mobilization of the Fire Service with 18 firefighters and 7 vehicles arriving at the scene.

Police detained 72 people, the majority of them was set free on Sunday.
One police officer was slightly injured.
Speaking to ERT, Greek Police spokeswoman said authorities suggest that there is a link between the attacks in Exarchia with the bomb that exploded outside the offices of Hellenic Train in central Athens on Friday night.
