The Hellenic Train has been the target of small protests outside its offices due to the tragic crash of a passenger train and a freight in Tempi on February 28, 2023, where 57 mostly young people were killed.

The explosion timely coincides with the Parliament plenary decision to refer to judiciary former deputy minister to the prime minister Christos Triantopoulos, earlier on Friday evening. Triantopoulos is set to face misdemeanor charges for breach of duty over the alleged mishandling of the Tempi disaster site.

So far, that is one hour after the explosion, no organization has claimed responsibility therefore the motive is practically unknown.
