OPEKEPE: Mitsotakis demands apologies from EPPO & Greek opposition

“Honest politicians have been slandered for weeks. Who will apologize?” An obviously angry Greek Prime Minister said on Thursday, after the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) announced earlier today that regarding the OPEKEPE subsidies fraud, the case files against several ruling New Democracy MPs and officials have been archived.

“The announcement by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office highlights the real dimension and the full truth about OPEKEPE,” PM Mitsotakis stressed at a meeting of the Government Council Financial Politics..

“13 ministers and MPs of ND were targeted, 9 of them are proven to be completely innocent and 4 more of our executives will be further examined for simple misdemeanors. I asked three ministers to resign for reasons of indignity. Honest politicians who have been slandered for weeks, as some called us a “government of those awaiting trial! Today, who will apologize for those misdeeds?” Mitsotakis asked.

He continued verbally attacking both the opposition parties in Greece as well as the EPPO saying “It concerns both the opposition in our country, which does not respect the presumption of innocence, but, unfortunately, also the European Public Prosecutor’s Office, which seemed to be involved in internal party competition.”

PS now both the opposition and the EPPO should apologize subtracting the four active ND MPs, among them a former minister, who are under further investigation. See EPPO announcement HERE on KTG.

It should be recalled that some ND ministers have been lashing out against the EPPO even questioning the legality of its authority since quite some time but it is the first time the Prime Minister openly lashed out at the institution.
