One more Greek island, Poros in the Saronic Gulf, has been declared in state of emergency for a period of three months due to water shortage.
The decision activated the special institutional framework provided for areas facing serious problems of water resource adequacy.

Minister of Environment and Energy, Stavros Papastavrou, reportedly signed the relevant decision on Tuesday, July 14, , following the agreement of the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy and Water (RAEW) and the Secretary General of Aegean and Island Policy.
The decision activates the special institutional framework provided for areas facing serious problems of water resource adequacy, enabling the competent services to proceed with faster procedures in the necessary interventions to ensure the island’s water supply.
Last month, the islands of Tinos and Alonissos were also placed in a state of emergency due to the same reason.
