Body of 2-year-old girl found at Athens beach

The body of an estimated 2- to 3-year-old girl was found washed ashore at the beach of Edem in Palaio Faliro suburb of southern Athens in the early morning hours of Sunday.

According to initial information by the Coast Guard, the girl was wearing an one-piece bathing suit with a zipper and had no arms floaters or life jacket on.

There are reportedly no obvious signs of injuries or abuse, and it remains a mystery how the toddler he ended up alone in the sea and under which circumstances she lost her life.

The body was discovered by a 33-year-old Egyptian national around 4 o’ clock in the morning who also informed the police.

Police and an ambulance rushed to the scene and the body was transported to a children’s hospital in Athens, where doctors could only confirm her death.

An autopsy is expected to shed light into the causes of the child’s death.

Police has reportedly checked with lists of “missing children” but no match could be found, so far.

Authorities continue investigation and are working to identify the child.

Almost twelve hours after the found, not a single parent has turned to police to report of a missing daughter.
