Tourists couple drown in Sarakiniko on Milos island

A tourists couple was found drowned in the emblematic Sarakiniko beach on the island of Milos early afternoon on Friday, August 8, 2025.

An operation with the participation of private boats is underway to recover the bodies from the sea in the north of the Cyclades island, coordinated by a coast guard boat.

Strong northern winds blowing in the area make the recovery from the  the rough sea difficult.

According to information from local media miloslife.gr, the victims are a couple from Vietnam in their 50’s, who visited the island during a cruise ship stopover and had disembark at the port of Adamas.

Initial information indicates that the couple found themselves in the sea, when the woman tried to take a picture of the scenery and was swept away by the wind.

Then, the husband allegedly dived into the water to save his beloved wife, resulting in both of them losing their lives.

Meanwhile, one of the bodies have been apparently recovered from the sea, KTG undestands. Efforts are being made to recover the second body, but conditions are difficult due to the weather.

Citing information released by the Coast Guard, state-run news agency amna.gr reported later that “an operation was organized to recover the couple from the water, while the help of a private diver had to be enlisted to bring the woman up from the bottom of the seabed to the surface.

The two individuals, who may be foreign nationals, were next taken to the island’s health center to determine their condition.

Winds of up to 9 Beaufort are blowing in the area and there is currently no information about how the two ended up in the water.
