Weather in Greece started unstable this week with heavy rains thunderstorms in several areas since yesterday, Monday. These phenomena are forecast to continue also today, Tuesday. however, temperature will rise again as of Thursday and are forecast to reach 41 degrees Celsius on Friday, August 22, 2025.

On Monday, August 18, over 5,000 lightning strikes were recorded in the country, some of which also caused fires, which increases the degree of caution required today.

Storms are expected in Attica from early afternoon, in central and eastern Macedonia as well as the remaining regions of mainland. The storms will be locally strong, mainly in Macedonia, while showers are expected in most continental areas at noon and in the afternoon. However, the phenomena will subside almost everywhere in the evening.
In Attica, the day is particularly interesting, as mainly in the midday and afternoon hours there is an increased probability of local showers or short storms. The phenomena will not last long, but may be temporarily intense. Winds will blow weakly, in the east northerly up to 4 Beaufort, while the temperature will reach 33 to 34 degrees.
In Thessaloniki, the weather will remain unstable with showers during the day. The winds will gradually weaken, while the temperature will fluctuate around 30 to 32 degrees Celsius.
From Wednesday, the instability will be significantly limited, with only some isolated rains in the northern mountains.
Winds will strengthen in the Dodecanese up to 7 Beaufort, without particular problems in the rest of the country. Temperatures will remain close to normal levels for the season.
However, from Thursday and especially Friday, a new rise in temperature is expected.
In Thessaly, Eastern Central Greece and the Peloponnese, the maximum values will reach 38 to 39 degrees. In Attica, the rise will be temporary, as over the weekend and especially on Sunday, northerly winds will bring a drop in temperature and a cooler feeling.
The trend indicates that August may end warm, but this will be seen in the coming days, as the meteorologist of state broadcaster ERT emphasized.
