Poll: ND still flies low; majority of Greeks unsatisfied with tax breaks promises

The majority of Greeks are not satisfied and certainly not impressed by the tax breaks promises announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis last Saturday at Thessaloniki International Fair.

Soaring living cost prices are a headache for 7 in 10 Greeks

In a public opinion poll conducted by Interview on behalf of newpaper  political.gr, 77% of respondent said that they were not at all or a little satisfied.

At the same time, ruling New Democracy continues its low flights in the voters’ preference. ND still leads towards PASOK, but the percentage rates cannot be satisfying for the PM who was hoping the measures announced in Thessaloniki would boost the party’s popularity.

57% of respondents want early elections, while 41% want the government to complete its term which is in summer 2027.

Voting intention rates:

  • ND: 21.9%
  • PASOK – socialists: 12%
  • Greek Solution – nationalists: 8.1%
  • KKE – communists: 7.2%
  • Freedom Course – left wing: 4.6%
  • Voice of Reason – nationalist: 4%
  • Movement of Democracy – Kasselakis: 3.8%
  • MeRA25- Varoufakis: 3.8%
  • SYRIZA – left wing: 3.4%
  • New Left left wing: 2.1%
  • Niki – religious/nationalist: 1.9%
  • Undecided: 17.2%
  • Other party: 10%

Asked who is the political leader they trust, citizens responded:

  • None: 28.9%
  • Kyriakos Mitsotakis ND: 27%
  • Nikos Androulakis PASOK: 9.7%

Citizens were also asked who they would choose to vote for if ex SYRIZA-PM Alexis Tsipras, ex ND-PM Antonis Samaras and Maria Karystianou – the mother of one of the Tempi train crash victims who leads a movement for justice- were to create separate political entities and their answer was:

  • Karystianou: 25%
  • Tsipras: 13%
  • Samaras: 9%

TIF measures and Greeks’ daily life

A question was also asked about the tax breaks measures announced at TIF 2025 by PM Mitsotakis:

77% of respondents stating that they were not at all or a little satisfied 22% responded that they were very or quite satisfied

58% responded that there is no measure that they consider to concern them personally, while 40% responded that there is.

Regarding questions about their daily life, citizens responded at:

  • 37% that they have difficulty shopping at the supermarket
  • 31% that they have difficulty paying their electricity bills
  • 13% that they have difficulty paying an emergency expense
  • 12% that they have difficulty paying rent or utilities
  • 4% saying they have difficulty paying their phone bills.

A public opinion poll published on August 28, had also shown low flights for the ruling party and Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

PS If Mitsotakis does not take measures to combat the soaring living cost prices and does not clear the corruption scandals like OPEKEPE for example, the ruling party may even fall below 20 percent.

Bitter but true: the government has been worn out and there is need for bold measures to recover.
