Inflation in Greece jumps to 2.9% in November: Blame food & services

Inflation in Greece jumped to 2.9% in November, compared to 1.6% in October and 1.8% in September, according to preliminary data from the European statistics authority Eurostat.

The services sector contributed significantly to the increase in inflation in Greece, as it showed appreciations at an annual rate of 4.7% from 2.8% in the previous month.

In food, it fluctuates at 3.1% from 2.55% in October.

Prices in the Greek market are moving upwards again and at high speed, hitting consumers while at the same time it deconstructs the government narrative that manages to combat the high cost of living.

After 13 consecutive months the Greek inflation is flying above the eurozone average, the picture reversed in the two-month period September-October 2025, but it returned to the real Greek reality   in November 2025.

It is characteristic that inflation in Greece jumped to 2.9% in November, returning close to 3% levels after two months of being below the 2% threshold, according to the provisional estimates published today by Eurostat.

At the same time, in the eurozone, annual inflation is estimated at 2.2% in November, from 2.1% in October, with services recording the largest increases of 3.5%.

Regarding Greece, food prices have also been on the rise, as the category “food, alcohol and tobacco” recorded a price increase of 3.1% compared to November 2024.

Service prices also recorded a large increase of 4.7% on an annual basis, when in the corresponding comparison in October they were at 2.8%.

PS as long as the Value Added Tax that feeds the state cash register is not been lowered in food and other essentials there is no cure for the inflation in Greece.
