Greek Police refutes reports of fully blocked traffic on highways due to farmers’ protests

Greek Police on Thursday refuted media reports of fully blocked traffic on the country’s highways by protesting farmers saying that traffic has been redirected to other roads, and attaching press releases by local police departments about how circulation continues.

“In regard to media reports being reproduced about farmers’ mobilizations, it should be noted that circulation at the entire national road network is carried out through detour roads and alternative ones, according to the operational plan that has been set up to facilitate citizens’ circulation. Therefore, reports concerning fully blocked circulation are not true,” the Greek Police statement said.

Traffic regulations concerning detours and such are updated at the Greek police’s site at the website HERE in Greek.

Ps If you go to this site, you will have to open the announcements of local police departments around the major Greek regions where farmers protest by setting roadblocks.

  1. In my experience detours are terribly signposted in Greece. In the UK detours are usually signposted at every junction round the detour. The first time I hit a detour in Greece there was a sign where the detour started and then I was on my own. This is fine if the detour is in the area where you live and you know the roads but is a nightmare when you are far from home.
