Taxi drivers in Athens and Attica started their 48-hour strike early on Tuesday morning. The strike scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday, January 13-14, will last until 6 o’ clock on Thursday morning, January 15, 2026.
The union has announced last week it will launch rolling strikes until the Transportation Ministry satisfies a lo0ng list of their demands.
Top of taxi drivers demands is the government decision to force them into electric taxis as of beginning of the running year.
The union announced that the strike aims to protest against the “arbitrary and obsessive imposition of mandatory electro-mobility in taxis,” from 1/1/2026.
“The government once again chooses to legislate in the absence of reality, turning the taxi industry into an experimental floor for showing off, without a plan, without infrastructure and without social justice,” the union noted.
The union SATA is expected to announce the next rolling strike tomorrow, Wednesday.
