Authorities imposed a sailing ban for ferries and ships from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina and Lavrio in Attica on Wednesday morning, January 21.
Reason for the sailing ban are the severe weather conditions with heavy rainfalls and storms and gale-force winds of up to 9 Beaufort in the area of Attica and even up to 10 B locally in the Aegean Sea.
So far, all itineraries to the Cyclades islands and Crete have been cancelled.
According to the Greek Coast Guard, itineraries to the islands of the Saronic Gulf are only operated by conventional ships and at the discretion of the captain.
At the same time, the coastal ferry lines Agia Marina-Nea Stira, Rio-Antirrio, Volos-Sporades, Kavala-Prinos, Igoumenitsa-Lefkimmi-Corfu, as well as Kyllini-Zante and Kyllini-Kefalonia remain closed, media reported earlier.
Passengers planning to travel by sea should contact local port authorities, travel agents and /or shipping companies.

The island of Gavdos in the south-eastern Aegean Sea has been particularly hit by the severe weather and the gale-force winds.

Raging waves pushed a 15-meter-long sailboat ashore and sank two fishing boats docked at the port and swept away a car into the rough sea. The crew of a Frontex boat found themselves in danger.
