“No cover up!” Protests held for the five workers killed at biscuit factory

A dynamic rally with angry protesters outside the Labor Ministry took place on Tuesday morning.Protests were held also in other Greek cities with the aim to increase pressure and demanding justice for the five workers killed at a biscuit factory in central Greece.

The rally took place on the occasion of the five workers killed at the biscuit factory in Trikala on January 26, and was held after investigation was halted due to “high possibility of another explosion due to propane that soaked the ground”, so the official announcement.

At the same time, a protest was also organized outside the Labor Center of Trikala, of ioannina, Igoumenitsa and Volos.

The protests were held within the framework of a nationwide strike organized by the Pan-Hellenic Federation of Dairy, Food and Beverage Workers and Employees.

“We demand that there be no cover-up, that the causes of the fire and explosion be revealed and that all responsibility for the crime be assigned,” a statement of the Federation stressed.

The Cheesemakers’ Federation is also on the side of the workers, demanding that justice be served for the “crime,” as they characterize it, which cost the lives of five workers at the factory.

Among others, workers and protesters reportedly demand:

That all responsibility for the new “employment crime” be assigned immediately

That all measures be taken immediately to protect the lives and health of workers.

Safety measures for all workers, regardless of their method of remuneration (salary, social security), with substantial control of employer liability.

Taking all necessary measures to prevent work accidents, with the responsibility of the employer and substantial, comprehensive control by the competent state bodies (SEPE).
