A family tragedy took place in Elefsina, western Attica, when a woman accidentally killed her mother while she was parking her car outside their home.
The 71-year-old victim who was giving parking instructions to her daughter, got stuck between a car door and and tree and died within three minutes, media reported.
The victim had reportedly got off the car and had left the passenger door. When the car took a turn, the woman got trapped between the open door and a tree on the sidewalk, sustaining fatal injuries in the neck and the chest.
As soon as the 44-year-old driver realized that she had injured her mother, she got out of the vehicle and when she saw her mother covered in blood, she began screaming for help.
Neighbors rushed to the scene, alerted police and emergency services, the victim was rushed by an ambulance to a hospital where doctors could only confirm her death.
Eyewitnesses of the tragedy were the three children of the driver, aged 12 and twins 7.5 years old, who were sitting inside the car after taken home from school.
According to some media, the driver had accidentally stepped on the gas, causing the open door to sweep her mother to the tree and its sharp branches.
The 44-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter.she was set free by prosecutor’s order and is reportedly in shock.
